MP’S Press for Hydrogen Tram Service
HYDROGEN-POWERED trams could run between Stratford and Cheltenham if plans presented by a group of MPs secure financial backing.
The ambitious proposals already have the support of the Transport Secretary, Lord Adonis.
Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood, Tewkesbury MP Laurence Robertson and Gloucester MP Parmjit Dhanda were among a delegation from Gloucestershire who recently met Lord Adonis—and received an enthusiastic response.
If it becomes a reality the revolutionary system could link Stratford with Cheltenham town centre and even as far as Gloucester Docks.
Mr Horwood told the Herald: “Lord Adonis was very supportive. He likes the idea of new tram systems in general. He seemed immediately to give the green light—but funding is not currently available.
“What is important now is to make sure we build up enough support—build up a good head of steam—and make sure that support is in place for when the funding is available.”
