Hydrogen fuel cell pioneer to retire from GM
Larry Burns, vice president of research, development and strategic planning at General Motors, will announce his retirement soon, the Free Press has learned. Burns, who joined GM’s R&D staff in 1969, has been a vice president since 1998 and has been an industry pioneer in hydrogen fuel cell technology.
Burns reportedly told GM President Fritz Henderson about a month ago of his intent to retire. Henderson is in the midst of a major shakeup and downsizing of his top executive group, disbanding separate strategy boards and creating an eight-member executive committee. Henderson said Friday he will announce a number of executive moves between now and the end of this month.
