ROTTERDAM
– The Formula Zero event in Rotterdam came to a thrilling conclusion after
five teams raced to win the first Sprint Race in the Formula Zero Championship.
Greenchoice-Forze from the Technical University of Delft set the track
record for the weekend in qualifying, but EuplatecH2 from Spain beat the
Dutch team in the breathtaking final by just 0.172 seconds."
The brand new race class brought
a big scoop to the Dutch city Rotterdam: there was never raced with hydrogen
vehicles before. Six student teams build their own car in the past year
and a half and were now battling for the first Formula Zero Championship
points.
Team HercUCLAs from Los Angeles,
that unfortunately couldn’t compete at the main race, went on track first.
Despite a lot of cheering from all team members, the car was not able to
finish the important flying lap due technical problems. The Dutch team
was directly up to speed and broke the track record with 36.369 seconds.
The car of the British Imperial Racing Green race team, which was the most
reliable car so far, qualified second just in front of the teams from Spain
and Belgium.
In the semi final EuplatecH2
and Imperial Racing Green were racing against each other for a place in
the final round. The Spanish appeared to be the best of the two and fought
therefore against Greenchoice-Forze for victory. The Dutch team set a very
quick lap of 37.956 seconds, but also EuplatecH2 was driving fast. Eventually
they beat the team from Delft with less than two tenths of a second. The
battle for third was won by the British. They were quicker than the Solvay
Umicore Zero Emission Racing Team from Belgium who were having – also in
the semi final – some bad luck. |
