TORONTO, Ontario – Energy Visions Inc. (“EVI”)
(TSX Venture Exchange (“TSXV”) “EVI.S” and NASD: OTCBB: "EGYV") announces
its plan to demonstrate in the last calendar quarter of 2004 its innovative
prototype direct methanol fuel cell (“DMFC”) /rechargeable battery hybrid
power unit.
“We are pleased with the progress of our fuel cell program and are excited to demonstrate our accomplishments,” said Dr. Douglas James, VP Fuel Cells for EVI. “Our proprietary ‘flowing electrolyte’ DMFC technology has shown significant efficiency and voltage improvements over other DMFC systems. We are currently integrating our flowing electrolyte technology with a battery system to create the prototype hybrid fuel cell/rechargeable battery power unit.” “Based on recent announcements Direct Methanol Fuel Cells, in particular small format ones, will be in the market place this year,” stated Stephen Meldrum, Director, Business Development for EVI. We believe that a hybrid fuel cell/battery power system will be the most cost-effective method of bridging the gap between the performance limitations of existing fuel cell technologies and the economic realities of the marketplace. We feel that our hybrid fuel cell/battery technology has the potential to be a commercially viable portable power system for applications such as golf carts, fork lifts trucks, other small motive applications and portable power supplies. We are currently in discussions with several end users and OEMs who are planning to attend our upcoming demonstration.” In association with this project, EVI has signed a Cdn $215,000 design/development contract with Deltatee Enterprises Ltd. (“Deltatee”) of Calgary, Alberta, to supply design and construction services to operate and dynamically control the hybrid power unit, with a target completion date of September 2004. The services will include analysis software to evaluate the operating prototype. EVI has, with the approval of TSXV, issued 500,000 treasury common shares to Deltatee at Cdn $0.10 per share in settlement of the first Cdn $50,000 of Deltatee’s charges. Such shares are subject to a 4-month hold period that expires October 29, 2004. The partial settlement of fees via common shares was in exchange for a capped contract and a $50,000 reduction in the contract price. EVI has been developing its power unit in conjunction with Hibar Systems Ltd., of Toronto, which is co-designing and manufacturing stack components. The entire prototype development is a joint project between EVI and Alberta Research Council Inc. (“ARC”) and the prototype is being constructed at EVI’s laboratory located in the ARC facilities in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. About Deltatee Enterprises Ltd.: Founded in 1978, Calgary-based Deltatee specializes in mechanical, electronic and software engineering for OEM and consumer products and has successfully brought many projects to market. Their highly educated, multi-disciplinary staff, well-equipped facilities and numerous specialty affiliates, provides exceptional capability to develop and market cost effective products. Deltatee design processes are ISO 9000:2000 compliant. About Energy Visions Inc.: EVI develops and commercializes advanced battery and direct methanol fuel cell technologies and products. EVI possesses proprietary flowing electrolyte direct methanol fuel cell technologies that it has been developing for portable power systems. EVI also owns a major interest in Pure Energy Inc. whose subsidiary, Pure Energy Visions Inc., manufactures and markets rechargeable and single-use alkaline batteries globally. These products are sold under the “Pure Energy”, XL™ and “Pure Power” labels and to private label customers worldwide. Pure Energy products can be purchased at several leading retailers including Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, London Drugs and Western Grocers. According to ACNielsen Canada (“ACNielsen”) in 2003 Pure Energy sold 51.2% of all consumer rechargeable batteries and 48% of all chargers sold in Canada at mass merchandisers (Wal-Mart and Zellers), Grocery Banners, Drug, and Toys R Us. According to ACNielsen the number of consumer rechargeable batteries sold in Canada at these retail channels in 2003 grew by 28% over 2002 figures.
