SACRAMENTO,
California --Again this year as in 2006, the official California State
Christmas Tree is powered by a Freedom Power™-1P fuel cell power system
designed and manufactured by Altergy Systems of Folsom, California.
The Altergy fuel cell system allows
the tree’s 6,500 LED lights to operate entirely off the power grid, once
again demonstrating the State of California’s commitment to clean energy
sources and energy efficient technology. The fuel cell system is non-polluting;
its byproduct is water. In addition, the 55-foot tree’s LED bulbs consume
only about two percent of the electricity used by traditional incandescent
lights.
"Altergy is pleased to again power
California’s Christmas tree," stated Eric Mettler, President and CEO of
Altergy Systems. "A notable aspect about this year’s involvement is that
installation and operation of the fuel cell system was considered part
of the standard operating procedure rather than a new and untested concept.
This project is another example of the commercial viability of Altergy
fuel cell systems."
The California State Christmas Tree
is featured near the west entrance of the State Capitol Building in downtown
Sacramento, where it will be illuminated each evening through early January.
