The German manufacturer FuelCon has recently received a repeat order from the Spanish technological center and research laboratory INASMET-Tecnalia. After their first purchase of a fuel cell test station in 2006, INASMET-Tecnalia decided to continue their successful relationship with FuelCon by ordering an Evaluator C1000-LT for a new development project. The project acronym is DEIMOS and is funded by the Spanish Government. Among its objectives is the development of a high temperature PEMFC system for aeronautic applications. INASMET is working within this project as the reference laboratory for the Company, COMPAÑIA ESPAÑOLA DE SISTEMAS AERONAUTICOS S.A. (CESA).

CESA, a supplier of aviation equipment and leader in the application of fuel cells for aircraft use, aims to develop and integrate a 10kW high temperature PEM fuel cell system for aeronautical applications. The new components for this application will be developed in collaboration with the research center INASMET-Tecnalia. The FuelCon Evaluator C1000-LT will enable INASMET and CESA to qualify high temperature PEM fuel cells with a power range up to 2000 W and a current up to 200 A. Designed for testing large area cells and short stacks, the test station is equipped with FuelCon’s dynamic direct injection humidifier technology. The operation principle of the direct injection humidifier is to use high precision pumps to inject the calculated amount of water into FuelCon’s proprietary evaporator together with the anode and cathode gas, respectively. This will allow to reliably achieve the desired test gas operating temperature of 180°C and allow highly accurate and flexible humidification with fast response times. Additional features of the FuelCon Evaluator C1000LT are advanced pre- and backpressure control functions as well as a flexible thermal and electronic load management. The FuelCon TrueData-CVM cell voltage monitor will further enhance the project testing capabilities.

About FuelCon:
FuelCon is the global leading supplier of test and diagnostic systems for fuel cells, batteries and super capacitors. For years, the FuelCon name is recognized for extraordinary product quality, high technical standard, dedication to costumer service and innovation. With its test station series “Evaluator” the company manufactures test rigs for all typical fuel cell technologies like PEM, DMFC, SOFC or MCFC in a power range between a few watts up to 150kW fuel cell performance. Furthermore, FuelCon offers with the product lines TrueData and TrueXessory a various portfolio of diagnostic equipment and accessories. Aside its headquarters in Germany, FuelCon is with its subsidiary FuelCon Systems Inc. and several Representatives active in Europe, North America and Asia.

About INASMET:
INASMET-Tecnalia is a Spanish non-profit private Materials Research Centre working for industry under contract and on consultancy basis. With about 250 research staff (with 80 % of qualified technical personnel), their main objective is to investigate new technologies or processes and to improve and optimise existing or new products with the final objective of transferring this knowledge to industry.  Internally organised in different business units, the Energy Unit of is working in materials and processes related to the production, storage and use of hydrogen as energy carrier.  Actually INASMET-Tecnalia is carrying out national and European research projects with different companies in the field of fuel cells (PEMFC and SOFC), developing materials and components for stacks and also applying new production methods for these components.
