Loughborough, UK--Leading fuel cell power systems company Intelligent Energy today announced the appointment of Thomas Bennett as general counsel and commercial director for the Intelligent Energy Group. Bennett will also serve as an executive director on the company’s board, under the leadership of chairman John Rennocks.  The appointment marks the beginning of a new phase of Intelligent Energy’s growth and brings the company closer to the attainment of its commercial goals. Intelligent Energy recently unveiled the Crosscage, a prototype hydrogen fuel cell motorcycle developed in collaboration with Suzuki.

Intelligent Energy CEO, Henri Winand, commented: “This appointment shows that Intelligent Energy has moved beyond the technological R&D stage of its growth and is now moving into the commercialisation phase of our business plan.  This is a further step in the maturing of Intelligent Energy as an organisation, and has been carefully considered by Intelligent Energy’s leadership and subsequently endorsed by the board.”

Thomas Bennett qualified as a solicitor in 1995 and trained as a finance lawyer in the City of London . Previous firms include Denton Wilde Sapte and Allen & Overy. He has experience of working with financial institutions and large companies as a business director, finance lawyer and company treasurer.

Alongside Bennett, Intelligent Energy’s Board is made up of non-executive chairman John Rennocks (former finance director of Smith & Milton, Powergen plc and British Steel/Corus plc); executive director and company CEO Henri Winand (former VP of corporate venturing at Rolls Royce plc); executive director and COO Philip Mitchell (former R&D manager of Innogy Technology); non-executive director and independent business consultant Flavio Guidotti (also senior advisor to the president of the Central Bank of Argentina) and non-executive director Talal Shakerchi (MD of Meditor Capital Management Ltd).
