    SAIC Reveals Goal for New Energy Cars during 2006-2010

SHANGHAI-- Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (Group) (SAIC), one of the largest automakers in China, posts that it will focus on three points of its new energy strategy, namely industrialization of hybrid cars, the merchandise trend of alternative fuel cars and the R & D and demonstrated operation of fuel cell cars, between 2006 and 2010.

The automaker has developed a sample hybrid car of "Shanghai" brand with its total proprietary based on the platform of Roewe, an already-developed self-developed sedan model of the company. The car will be produced in 2008 and put into mass production with annual capacity of 50,000 cars in 2010. It features compact structure, strong reliability, low cost and close to be industrialized and can save over 15% fuel.

As for the alternative fuel car, the company has developed proprietary dimethyl ether-fueled city buses up to Euro III emission standards.

The auto giant and auto parts suppliers like Shanghai Fuel Cell Vehicle Powertrain Co., Ltd. have developed "Shanghai" brand fuel cell cars with highest speed of 150km/h.
