Tyco Electronics will work with DMFCC on direct methanol fuel cells and liquid fuel cartridge products that will provide the energy source for laptop computers, mobile phones and other portable electronic devices. Fuel cells are expected to gain substantial market share in mobile electronics applications where long operating times may be required. Direct methanol fuel cells are being developed for these applications by companies such as Samsung in Korea, and by Toshiba, NEC, Hitachi and Sanyo in Japan.
"Tyco Electronics always looks toward enabling innovative emerging technologies," says Boris Golubovic, Director of Business Development at Tyco Electronics for Transpower products. "Our manufacturing and applications expertise, combined with DMFCC’s fuel cell and cartridge technology will help address unmet customers needs for autonomous powering of electronic equipment."
"I welcome Tyco Electronics Corporation as a manufacturer and distributor of fuel cartridges and look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship," reports Dr. Carl Kukkonen, CEO of both VIASPACE and DMFCC. "Our strategy is to associate with manufacturers that are already trusted suppliers to electronic OEMs, and Tyco Electronics clearly fits that definition."
