| Current
visibility indicates deliveries of 60-80 HyPX Power Packs
MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--Hydrogenics
Corporation (TSX: HYG)(NASDAQ: HYGS), a leading designer and manufacturer
of hydrogen and fuel cell systems, announced today that it is making significant
advances in developing material handling markets for its HyPX Fuel Cell
Power Pack product with current visibility to deliver 60-80 units.
Included in this number are deliveries
and deployments that are being undertaken with a wide base of stakeholders
including several world leading OEMs for both Class 1 lift trucks and Class
2 reach trucks, a major U.S. distributor, the armed forces, and automotive
and other high production manufacturers. The majority are being deployed
at customer facilities in pilot programs of 10 to 20 units for the purpose
of evaluating the HyPX solution for broader enterprise-wide deployments.
Class 1 and Class 2 lift trucks are used extensively in manufacturing facilities,
distribution centers and warehouses that currently rely on lead acid battery
powered forklifts to meet zero emission requirements. These users can benefit
from significant productivity gains that HyPX Power Packs offer, compared
to batteries, in 24/7 operations.
"End-users are creating significant
market pull for HyPX Power Packs, and as a result, a number of leading
lift truck OEMs are accelerating their fuel cell product development efforts,"
said Daryl Wilson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hydrogenics.
"These efforts include in-house testing and evaluation as well as field
deployments with their key customers. It is very exciting that the initial
seeds that we planted over two years ago are now providing additional opportunities
with an expanded roster of world leading material handling OEMs and end-users."
Hydrogenics released its latest generation
of HyPX Power Packs in January 2007 following successful deployments in
2005 of previous generation Power Packs in two Hyster forklift trucks at
General Motors of Canada's car assembly plant in Oshawa and the Toronto
Airport Fedex facility. These field trials validated the benefits of using
fuel cells specifically for Class 1 forklifts in multi-shift environments.
Designed to fit within a lift truck's
existing battery pack compartment, Hydrogenics' HyPX Power Pack incorporates
the company's proprietary HyPM(R) HD Fuel Cell Power Module for base load
requirements and energy-storing ultracapacitors to handle load peaks and
to capture energy through regenerative braking.
