Lamar
University recently joined with industry, government and other educational
institutions to form the Gulf Coast Hydrogen Alliance (GCHA) to serve as
a resource for expanding the economic base for hydrogen along the Gulf
Coast.
GCHA membership will be comprised of a diverse group of small business, industry, academic, and government leaders with the intention of promoting the research and business interests of its members, facilitating joint efforts between members, and advocating for the expanded commercialization of hydrogen energy in the region.
The Gulf Coast offers considerable intellectual and natural resources to support the development and broader implementation of hydrogen energy. GCHA seeks to advance technological innovation, support energy diversification and regional energy security, and elevate the competitiveness of its member organizations by leveraging these resources and developing solutions to regional energy challenges.
Initial founding members of the alliance include, in addition to Lamar University, Netozoic, Inc.; TesSol, Inc.; Infintium Energy, Inc., and Applied Nanotech, Inc.
Lamar University is also a member of the Texas Hydrogen Coalition that includes founding members Toyota, Shell Hydrogen, Xcel Energy, Air Liquide, TEXYN, Exergy Development Group, Nature’s Electric, and the University of Texas. The alliance will act as a catalyst for hydrogen research and business expansion in the Gulf Coast including hydrogen fuel cells; hydrogen internal combustion engines; distributed generation; hydrogen production, storage, distribution and utilization; logistics and material handling equipment.
Working together, alliance members will support regional and federal Hydrogen Economy goals and encouraging regional hydrogen-based initiatives while providing a forum for its members. The alliance will encourage public/private and industry partnerships and ensure a positive impact on economic development within the region by promoting the creation of business and employment opportunities in the hydrogen industry.
GCHA will be governed by an elected
board of directors comprised of representatives of member organizations.
Founding members are currently drafting organizational by-laws for review
and ratification.
