Akzo Nobel and AFC Energy are collaborating on a project to generate electricity from hydrogen obtained in chlor-alkali production.

AFC's hydrogen fuel cell technology and the feasibility of transforming hydrogen to electricity and useful heat will be evaluated at Akzo Nobel's chlor-alkali plant in Bitterfeld, Germany.

The technology will be utilized to generate clean energy.

Full commercialization is expected in 2009.
