| India's first
commercial hydrogen fuel pump will commence operations in south Delhi early
next year. It will come up at the Indian Oil Corporation's Lodhi Road outlet
and will have facilities to dispense pure hydrogen and hydrogen with Compressed
Natural Gas (CNG). The station will provide fuel for about 1,000 vehicles
a day.
Only a few modifications will be
required to start a vehicle using CNG laced with 10 per cent hydrogen.
However, experts say significant changes in the engine will be mandatory
for vehicles using fuel with a blending over 10 per cent. Some leading
automobile and three-wheeler manufacturers are expected to come out with
modified engines that could run on a maximum of 30 per cent blend of hydrogen.
IOC is already testing hydrogen blended
CNG at its Faridabad Research and Development Centre. The new green fuel
was being tested on three-wheelers, light commercial vehicles, and minibuses.
