The
Altek Group is pleased to announce that it has applied for a patent for
a fully self-contained portable Alkaline Fuel Cell Power Supply System,
the APS 100.
Its APS 100 is based on Altek’s unique aluminum-air fuel cell technology, with a specific energy of over 300 Wh/kg (500 Wh/kg is coming soon), and is designed to power a wide range of portable applications, thereby increasing its potential commercial value.
With a continuous power output of 100 watts, the efficiently designed APS 100 features, catalyzed gas diffusion electrodes, composite electrolytes and a unique fuel cartridge design that allows for “instant refueling” and extends the run time almost indefinitely, leading to an unlimited number of portable applications.
Altek believes it is exceptional in using aluminum as its primary fuel source, which contains a specific energy of 10.5 kWh/kg and makes it more efficient than other sources of fuel that have significantly lower inherent energy levels.
The company anticipates that the military applications are expected to be a significant niche market for the APS 100. Its efficiency (60-80%), reduced weight, versatility, extended running time and quiet operation make it extremely well suited for the diverse power needs of military services.
Now that the initial patent has been filed, it is anticipated that a range of additional patents on the specific aspects of the product will be undertaken.
The Altek team has produced a working prototype of the APS 100, that has undergone significant testing in its laboratory and it is ready for demonstration and commercialization.
