H2Bot, one of the first robot vehicles
in the world to be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, will navigate through
an obstacle course using a Differential-Global Positioning System, a digital
compass/inclinometer, an on-board camera and a laser scanner. This is not
a remote-controlled vehicle. It is programmed to react to the data it receives
from its sensors.
It will be demonstrated from 12:30-1
p.m. outside the Don Ridler Field House on the Lawrence Tech campus, 21000
W. 10 Mile Road, Southfield.
The LTU H2Bot student team took third place in an international field of 41 at the 14th Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition held at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in June. The LTU entry was the only one powered by a fuel cell.
Hydrogen fuel cells could be critical to reducing the United States' reliance on fossil fuels. The sensor and intelligent-software technologies used in the H2Bot could play an important part in the development of autonomous vehicles, a national priority since Congress has mandated that a third of future Army vehicles must be autonomous by 2015.
LTU offers more than 60 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degree programs in Colleges of Architecture and Design, Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Management.
