--Next year Brazil will have its first hydroogen fuel cell-powered urban
transport vehicle.
The bus, which was developed with
Brazilian technology by the Hydrogen Laboratory of the o Alberto Luiz Coimbra
Institute of Postgraduate Studies (COPPE) of the Rio de Janeiro Federal
University, will start to operate in the first half of 2007.
The project also has the participation
of the Mines and Energy Ministry, of the Sao Paulo Urban Transport Corporation
(EMTU/SP), of the United Nations Development Program and of GEF (Global
Environmental Facility). The investment will be of U$16 million.
