A new polymer electrolyte fuel cel (PERC) has been developed by Seiko Instruments which is around one-third of the size of its exsiting PERCs. Measuring 3-W, the new fuel cell consists of a hydrogen generator, a cell that produces electricity, and booster/control circuits.

The product was developed using sodium boron hydride.

The company hopes to launch the new fuel cell by the end of 2007 for application as an external power source for electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras and notebook computers.
