Eldridge, a former DFS executive with Asia marketing experience, has joined
the board of directors of the hydrogen fuel cell R&D company Hoku Scientific
Inc.
Eldridge is currently a director of American Savings Bank, HiBEAM, Broadband iTV, MC&A (formerly Mary Charles & Associates), Assets School and The Nature Conservancy. A former U.S. Army intelligence officer in Europe and Vietnam, Eldridge was regional president of Asian marketing, among other positions, during 14 years with DFS. His appointment signals that Hoku Scientific is closer to going to market with its advanced components for PEM fuel cells. PEM stands for "proton exchange membranes." The other directors of Hoku Scientific are Hawaiian Electric Co. VP Energy Solutions Karl Stahlkopf and Hoku founder Dustin Shindo. Hydrogen fuel cells could replace today's
internal combustion engines. The chemical reaction inside the fuel cell
produces power with only two byproducts: heat and water.
