BEND,
OR -- IdaTech, LLC, a global fuel cell solutions developer and manufacturer,
announces that an integrated IdaTech fuel cell system, in collaboration
with the London Hydrogen Partnership (LHP) and Chetwoods Associates, is
providing a daily power load of eight kilowatts to a naturally powered
kinetic structure for a 28-day period during the London Biennials in June.
The lighted structure, standing over seven meters tall, is installed in
Islington, London, and is fully powered by a combination the IdaTech PEM
fuel cell system, a photovoltaic (PV) array and a battery bank. The London
Oasis was opened on June 19th by the Deputy Mayor of London.
The concept of the London Oasis project
is to restore and reinvigorate people's spirits as they go about their
daily urban lives, and is an aspect of the larger "Tranquil Spaces for
London" initiative that will be launched this summer. The sculpture varies
throughout the day, interacting with both people and the environment. An
ultimate goal for the collaboration between IdaTech and the LHP is the
introduction of fuel cells on a larger scale in metropolitan London, with
the long-term goal of installing one fuel cell system in each of the London
boroughs (30 boroughs total) by the year 2012.
"IdaTech's integration expertise
with photovoltaic systems, batteries and fuel cells makes us uniquely qualified
for this project. Our reformer's ability to convert liquid fuel into pure
hydrogen, as required by the fuel cell system, eliminates the need for
the storage of compressed hydrogen gas. The project is a very good fit
for IdaTech as it demonstrates our fuel cell system and unique reforming
capabilities in order to support a long-duration application that requires
extremely low noise and low emissions," said Claude H. Duss, IdaTech's
president and chief executive officer. "We are happy to have been selected
to support the London Oasis project and are looking forward to additional
opportunities to apply our fuel cell solutions to multiple applications
in an environmentally-friendly manner."
"IdaTech's systems have a reputation
for being clean, easy to use and dependable. Those attributes fit perfectly
with the theme of the London Oasis project. We a very pleased that IdaTech
is participating in this project and look forward to working together in
the future," said Laurie Chetwood, chief executive, of Chetwoods Associates.
