The Business Development Board of Palm Beach County said it has attracted a Fort Lauderdale company to move to West Palm Beach.

The county line-jumping firm is EnerFuel.

The BDB said the fuel cell designer and developer will employ 16 people with an average salary of $60,000. The company has a grant from the Florida Hydrogen Initiative to develop, deploy and demonstrate a biomass-fueled 10-kilowatt fuel cell system to power an Florida interstate rest area. The fuel cell system is to be powered by fuel from waste generated by citrus processing.

BDB President Kelly Smallridge pointed out Palm Beach County is known for producing a variety of agricultural products.

"It's a unique opportunity for two unlike industries to work together," she said of the fuel cell company and agricultural firms.

The BDB said though EnerFuel is moving its headquarters to Palm Beach County, it will keep its laboratory in Fort Lauderdale.
