to Present at Smith Barney Citigroup Small-Mid Cap Conference

Dr. William P. Acker, president and chief executive officer
of MTI MicroFuel Cells Inc. (MTI Micro), a subsidiary of Mechanical Technology
Inc., (Nasdaq: MKTY) is scheduled to speak at the Smith Barney Citigroup
Small-Mid Cap Conference Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at 9 a.m. PST at the Four
Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas.
The Small-Mid Cap Conference, a symposium for small-mid cap portfolio managers, runs May 5-6 and highlights selected small and mid-cap companies of less than $5 billion market capitalization. More than 60 presenting companies and the top 200-250 Small and Mid-Cap Portfolio Managers in the United States are expected to attend the conference. MTI Micro is involved in the development and commercialization of direct methanol fuel cells as a power source for portable electronics, and Dr. Acker will speak about recent advancements made by MTI Micro as it moves towards the planned launch of its first product at the end of 2004.
