| A local West
Point alumnus has joined forces with an alternative power specialist to
form Thayer Gate Energy, a company that is promoting hydrogen power as
an alternate for fleet vehicles.
John Dodson of Highland Falls and
Raymond Kenard of American Wind Power and Hydrogen, have met with West
Point and other military officials, and airport executives, including those
at Newburgh’s Stewart Airport, to sell the virtues of clean hydrogen powered
vehicles.
Kenard said their company has made
some headway already. “We actually have a contract with the State University
of Buffalo to put in some fueling stations and a couple of vehicles,” he
said. “We’ve made a proposal to NYSERTA to do a prototype hydrogen bus
transportation system for the Albany Bus Transit Company and several other
initiatives we’re beginning to work on.”
Dodson and Kenard’s technology would
convert combustion engines to hydrogen powered and the byproduct of that
fuel is plain water.
