Demonstration Program in Five Cities Will Test Hythane(TM)-Based Transportation |
The company has signed memos of understanding with five major cities to test and convert as many as 10,000 diesel busses to be powered by Hythane(TM) fuel, a blend of natural gas and hydrogen that reduces emissions by up to 50 percent compared to traditional natural gas. The project targets full conversion prior to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
"Assisting China in developing its transportation and energy strategies is a huge opportunity for the company," said Roger Marmaro, Hythane Company president. "The initial test phase over the next six to nine months will help set the stage for large-scale market rollout."
"As an alternative fuel, Hythane blends hydrogen with natural gas to meet increasing global emissions standards," said hydrogen industry pioneer Frank Lynch, company founder, co-inventor of Hythane (with Marmaro) and member of various industry safety and standards boards. "This may be the world's first use of hydrogen as a vehicle fuel on a massive scale."
Other parties to the memos of understanding include the China Association for Hydrogen Energy, the China Electronic Engineering Design Institute, Tsinghua University, and the Shougang Technology Research Institute.
