International
Energy Group (IEG), the region's first international energy alliance to
promote advanced energy technologies, announced a new strategic alliance
with Hydrogenics Corporation, a leading global developer of clean energy
solutions, advancing the Hydrogen Economy by commercializing hydrogen and
fuel cell products.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
was inked in Dubai to take the year long cooperation between S.S. Lootah
Group and Hydrogenics to a new strategic level. The agreement focuses on
promoting the Fuel Cell Power Modules, associated equipment and commercially
viable Fuel Cell applications that cater to many industries in the Middle
East region.
'IEG has been formed with the objective
of promoting and accelerating the adoption of clean energy sources to supplement
conventional energy sources worldwide, we will continue to introduce commercially
viable advanced energy technologies and applications for many industrial,
business and government sectors' said Eng. Yahya Lootah, Vice Chairman,
S.S. Lootah Group and IEG President & CEO.
'The UAE has all the necessary drivers
for fuel cell and hydrogen adoption as well as many other growing economies
in the region. Ambitious drive and large potential for increased tourism,
existing world-class energy expertise and the drive for economical diversification
present a great opportunity for advanced energy technologies today.' he
concluded.
Pierre Rivard, President and CEO
of Hydrogenics Corporation proposed a Hydrogen Oasis in the a UAE during
his speech at the advanced energy seminar, organized by S.S. Lootah Group
in Dubai last September. He argued that the UAE could be the Largest Hydrogen
Energy Technology deployment in the world making it one step beyond California's
Hydrogen Highway, Toronto's Hydrogen Village, and Taj Mahal Hydrogen Fleet,
all projects that carry the signature of Hydrogenics.
The Fuel Cell applications engineered
by Hydrogenics, vary in size and cater for different industry needs from
transportation to the zero-emission Fuel Cell NEV's Neighborhood Electric
Vehicles, with Air-conditioning to Data Server Rooms , hotels, resorts,
airports and golf courses.
'The Middle East is one of the largest
markets anywhere in the world for energy related products and services,
the Middle East's energy industry is active in all of the industry sectors,
from power generation to natural gas, new and renewable energy and now
the fuel cell applications. Said Pierre Rivard. 'The UAE is already a global
player in the energy and can be a leading-edge demonstrator of the Future
of Energy. Hydrogen derived from Solar, or multiplicity of sources, with
no harmful emissions will displace natural gas as the main energy export
from the Middle East in the future.' he added.
