As fuel cell vehicles evolve, we’re likely to see a full range of evolutionary changes in a variety of technologies used in these high-tech vehicles.

Honda’s all-new FCX fuel cell sedan provides a great example with its change to the use of rear in-wheel motors, an efficient electric drive system that showed up in other hybrid and fuel cell concepts at the recent Tokyo Motor Show.

In-wheel motor technology has been in the works at Honda for some time. Also, in-wheel motors have been under development at the Canadian company Technologies M4 for many years and more recently at GM.
