Its FCX fuel cell car managed to start after being left parked overnight in snowy northern Hokkaido when the mercury fell to minus 11 Celsius, Honda Motor Co.  Ltd. said in a statement.

"The FCX, equipped with Honda's original fuel cell stack, started up promptly as usual," it said. "Test drives conducted immediately afterwards demonstrated the vehicle's high driving performance."

With the new battery, named Honda FC Stack, the driving range has increased to 395 kilometers (245 miles) from the present 355 kilometers, Honda said, adding that fuel economy has improved by 10 percent.
