-- Trading house Sumitomo Corp. said Monday it has begun marketing single-wall
carbon nanotubes in Japan and South Korea as the exclusive sales agent
of Carbon Nanotechnologies Inc. of the United States.
Sumitomo plans to sell the nanotubes to more than 200 companies, including makers of electrical machinery, automobiles and chemicals, and hopes to chalk up 10 billion yen in annual sales in five years. Single-wall carbon nanotubes are said to be applicable to next-generation flat screens, fuel cells and other products because of their strength and high electrical and heat conductivity. Prices of the nanotubes are expected to drop more than 10 percent from the current level to 10,000-20,000 yen per kilogram if the Texas-based company carries out a plan to produce 500 kg a day next year. |
