LOCKPORT, N.Y.-- This summer, fabrication and machining company Diversified Manufacturing Inc. (DMI) entered into the second half of a large contract, a two-year $1.6 million agreement with leading fuel- cell maker UTC Power. DMI is the sole supplier of three major components of UTC Power's flagship product, the PureCell(TM)200, the world's first commercial fuel cell power plant.

"For a relatively small supplier like us to have a near million-dollar-a- year contract with a Fortune 50 company in an emerging alternative energy market is a tremendous boost to ensuring our company's future stability," said DMI President & CEO Brian F. Costello. "We've supplied components to UTC Power for 15 years and are optimistic that our future contracts with UTC Power will be even greater in value."

New York state Sen. George D. Maziarz (R-C, Newfane), of the 62nd District, said, "DMI's success is further evidence that some of the best companies, products, and workers in the world are right here in Western New York. It has been tremendous to see DMI's growth over the past 50 years, and this contract is a sign that they're still on the cutting edge of today's technology."

DMI's technical experience in building, assembling and testing complex integrated systems for fuel cell power plants and familiarity with the PureCell 200's construction is the foundation of the company's relationship with UTC Power.

"DMI has been a reliable supplier that has helped us further reduce our fuel cell costs, maintain product quality and ensure on-time deliveries to our customers," said Jan van Dokkum, president of UTC Power, a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX - News). "Our company built the first commercial fuel cells in the U.S. and has been the market leader ever since. Suppliers like DMI will help us reach new milestones in the wake of the new U.S. energy bill."

Fuel cells use hydrogen instead of fossil fuel to produce electricity, making them environmentally safe and energy efficient. DMI's expansive manufacturing processes serve the emerging hydrogen economy. The company's components for the PureCell(TM)200 include a reformer that extracts hydrogen from the natural gas fuel source, a fuel processor, and a carbon steel frame on which the power plant is mounted.

Diversified Manufacturing Inc. is a full-service fabrication and machining company in Western New York State. Founded in 1955, DMI designs and builds specialized products and components, using 50 years of expertise and state-of- the-art equipment, and offers engineering, sheet metal, and quality assurance services. DMI also manufactures and distributes Speed Roller, an industry leader in golf course greens maintenance technology.
