Rimini, Italy-- "It would be better to use hydrogen rather than nuclear" energy to face the energy crisis, said Environment Minister Altero Matteoli in a press conference during the Communion and Liberation summit in Rimini.

The AN minister said "I believe in hydrogen: this year I have visited a large number of plants, and things have progressed much. It is definitely a preferable energy source than the nuclear".

Matteoli explained that "it takes 12 years [to build a nuclear plant]. How long would it take to obtain a permit from a municipality to build one? We would have the plant in no less than 15-16 years".

According to the Environment Minister, "renewable solar energy sources would not be enough".

On wind power: "Our country is, environmentally speaking, is more beautiful than many others: so we have to find appropriate locations to build these wind energy plants"..
