WHAT: Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will be the guest of honor at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.'s dedication of the state's largest commercial fuel cell installation. The project, composed of four 250-kilowatt Direct FuelCell(R) units, produces one megawatt (1 MW) of power to generate most of the facility's electrical demand, and its waste heat is captured to produce steam for the brewery process and other heating needs.

This form of electric power generation produces electricity with high reliability and quiet operation; furthermore, it consumes natural gas or biogases without combustion, significantly reducing emissions of various environmental pollutants. With 1 MW of fuel cell power Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. will not only lowers its energy costs, but effectively prevents air pollution emissions equivalent to removing 500 gasoline-burning cars from the road every year.

The Direct FuelCells(R), developed by FuelCell Energy, are classified as Ultra-Clean technology under California law -- electric generation technologies that produce emissions equal or less than amounts established by the state's strict Air Resources Board quality standards. FuelCell Energy and its distribution partner, Alliance Power, installed the four DFC units earlier this year.

Incentive funding was provided by Pacific Gas & Electric Company, through its Self-Generation Incentive Program. The utility company will be presenting a $2.4 million dollar rebate check to Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. The program also received $1 million financial support from the U.S. Department of Defense Climate Change Fuel Cell Program.

Representatives of all four parties will be on hand to answer questions. The dedication will include a tour of the four FuelCell Energy DFC power plants.
