At the visit of PEMEAS today in the Industrial Park Höchst, the Hessian Secretary of Economic Affairs. Dr. Alois Rhiel was pleased: “PEMEAS is ahighly innovative company at a very dynamic industrial site in Hesse. PEMEAS demonstrated its outstanding competitive position by developing the high temperature membrane electrode assembly, a unique component for fuel cells. The Innovation Award of German Industry and the international Red Herring Top 100 Innovators Award highlight the global recognition of this company”
At the meeting, Dr. Rhiel learned
about the newest developments in fuel cell technology. Dr. Horst-Tore Land,
President & CEO of PEMEAS presented a micro portable system developed
by a customer and based on PEMEAS’ high temperature technology. This system
can provide energy to portable electronics like two way radios or GPS
systems. The system is much lighter
and more efficient than Direct Methanol Fuel Cells or conventional lithium
batteries.
Within the next years, fuel cells will grow into a variety of niche applications and thus prepare the mass application of the efficient and environmentally sound energy technology. Infraserv Höchst is one of the large hydrogen producers and does support the development of fuel cell technology. Dr. Roland Mohr, managing director of Infraserv presented the activities to attract the emerging new industry to the industrial park.
The secretary of economic affairs honored the engagement of PEMEAS and Infraserv Höchst for the Hessian Fuel Cell & Hydrogen Initiative which bundles the regional competencies, together with the hessen-umwelttech initiative of the Hessian Ministry of Economic Affairs. Dr. Rhiel also announced the financial support of a joint project by the Technical University Wiesbaden (FH), BEHR GmbH & Co. KG and PEMEAS to develop a portable high temperature PEM fuel cell.
PEMEAS GmbH is a global leader in membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) for high temperature polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells. PEMEAS products are marketed under the brand name Celtec ?. PEMEAS continues the fuel cell activities of the former Hoechst Group and has received the 2004 National Innovation Award of German Industry.
PEMEAS is backed by a consortium led by Conduit Ventures Limited and consisting of SAM Private Equity, CDP Capital, P/S BankInvest New Energy Solutions, Celanese AG and Infraserv Hoechst, managing company of the Frankfurt-Hoechst industrial park.
