| Officials said Sunday that malfunctioning equipment
started a non-injury fire that caused about $150,000 damage to a Carlsbad
factory.
According to Carlsbad fire Capt. Rick Fisher, firefighters were called about 11:40 p.m. Saturday to Metallic Power -- a fuel-cell technology company -- in the 2300 block of Camino Vida Roble. Fisher said approximately 17 firefighters arrived to find smoke and water in the building. Flames activated the sprinkler system over the piece of testing equipment that had caught fire, Fisher said. "The flames were held in check by the sprinkler system and firefighters finished putting it out," said Fisher. Encinitas firefighters were on hand to assist Carlsbad, said Fisher. "There was considerable water damage and it was a fairly expensive piece of equipment," said Fisher. |
