PALO ALTO, Calif.--Frost & Sullivan's recent analysis, World Advances in Microfuel Cell Technologies, selected Medis Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:MDTL) as the recipient of the 2005 Excellence in Technology Award in the field of microfuel cells (fuel technology category). Medis Technologies' novel direct liquid fuel cell presents an auxiliary power source to power portable consumer and military devices. It is particularly useful in circumstances when mobile phones or other handheld devices are running low on power or need power to operate.

This Award is presented to a company that has pioneered the development and introduction of an innovative technology into the market. The Award also distinguishes the overall technical excellence of a company and its commitment towards technology innovation.

Meeting the need for high performance, high efficiency microfuel cells, Medis formulated an inventive fuel cell technology that uses borohydride-based compositions as a fuel and an alkaline electrolyte. The Medis proprietary fuel mixture is advantageous in that it is non-toxic and non-flammable making the technology more attractive from the commercial perspective. "A product of the company's focus on material chemistry innovation, Medis' microfuel cells are not only technologically sound but are also appear strong from a safety perspective."

This fuel technology utilizes a liquid alkaline electrolyte and minimal noble metal loading that helps lessen total fuel cell cost. Medis' technology eliminates supplementary support components, which characterize other fuel cell technologies making the Medis microfuel cell more compact than conventional microfuel cells and less costly.

For designing and developing an innovative novel direct liquid fuel cell technology, Medis Technologies Ltd. is the praiseworthy recipient of the 2005 Frost & Sullivan Award for Excellence in Technology.
