Korea has successfully won its bid to host the annual meeting of the hydrogen energy technology panel of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2007, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards reported Tuesday (May 24).

As a result, Korea will be in an advantageous position in the standardization of the hydrogen energy for which advanced countries will compete, prior to the advent of the “hydrogen economy” era, an agency official said. The agency is affiliated with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy.

“The government has been encouraging domestic researchers and companies to develop and commercialize techs for hydrogen energy and fuel cells, while making efforts for the technologies adopted as international standards,” the official said.

The agency held a seminar on measures toward standardization of technologies for hydrogen energy and fuel cells at its medium hall at 2 p.m. Tuesday (May 24) to explain the current moves of other countries and to seek strategies to gain advantage over them.

The technical committee (TC) 197 on hydrogen energy of ISO is pushing ahead with its plan to standardize 10 items including hydrogen fuel, fuel tank and cell-recharging stations which will be applied to the hydrogen eneergy vehicles throughout the world.
