The Golden Gate Bridge saw a different kind of traffic Thursday as
more than 80 environmentally friendly vehicles participated in a rally
that stretched from Infineon Raceway in Sonoma across the Golden Gate Bridge
into San Francisco. The rally marked the end of this year's Challenge Bibendum,
the world's largest environmental vehicle event.
Sponsored by Michelin, the event brought industry, researchers, and
governmentleaders from around the world together to showcase some amazing
technology. Luxury cars, mid-size cars, compact cars, pick-up trucks, heavy-duty
trucks and even buses took part in this year's event. All have reduced
emissions and many have quieter, more efficient engines thanks to advancements
in technology.
And with the world becoming more environmentally conscious, alternative
choices in vehicles are growing in popularity, not only because they are
better for the environment, but because they perform. Vehicles have to
hold up to strenuous testing. After all, that's a major part of Michelin's
three-day event.
There was also fun ways to showcase this new technology, such as rally
through Sonoma Valley, across the Golden Gate Bridge and into San Francisco.
Michelin's Challenge Bibendum has gained in popularity each year. Next
year's event will be held in Shanghi, China.
