Toledo's Midwest Optoelectronics LLC has been awarded a nearly $675,000 contract to develop a small-scale manufacturing process for a panel it developed to produce hydrogen from water using sunlight.

The Edison Materials Technology Center of Dayton yesterday announced the contract awarded through its Hydrogen Infrastructure Program, which was created to commercialize technologies related to hydrogen production, storage, and processing.

The Toledo firm developed its patent-pending integrated photovoltaic electrolysis panel with the University of Toledo and others.
