Hitachi Zosen plans to introduce polymer electrolyte fuel cells from its business tie-up partner Hydrogenics Corp., a major Canadian fuel cell maker. To construct the systems, Hitachi Zosen will combine the fuel cells with its own waste heat collection equipment.
The planned power systems will have an output of 10 kilowatts to several hundred kilowatts, and their total efficiency of power generation and heat collection is expected to top 86 pct. Product life is seen to reach 40,000 hours.
Annual sales are expected to reach 2 billion yen in 2010.
The Japanese fuel cell market is expected to begin a steep rise from around 2008 and exceed 200 billion yen in 2010. Hitachi Zosen hopes to expand its fuel cell business with support from Hydrogenics.
