TOKYO, Jan 30, 2003 (Kyodo via COMTEX) -- Sumisho Air Water Co. said Thursday
it has developed Japan's first truck to transport hydrogen, a fuel for low-emission
 fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).

Toyota Motor Corp. will buy the truck, dubbed the Mobile Hydrogen Station, in
February, said Sumisho Air Water, owned 40% by major trading house Sumitomo
 Corp.

The trucks are priced at 50-60 million yen per unit, Sumisho Air Water said.

Nissan Motor Co. will rent one in February, it said.

Sumisho Air Water said the trucks would be driven to FCEVs, which currently
number about five, to fuel them with hydrogen.

It plans to sell a hydrogen-supply station to public transport bodies and other
 customers in the near future.

The auto industry expects FCEVs will draw strong demand in the future given their
environment-friendly character. Toyota plans to sell about 20 FCEVs in Japan and
the United States this year, a Toyota spokeswoman said.

Industry officials project the number of FCEVs will total 50,000 by 2010 and 5
 million by 2020.
