University of North Dakota students who are building a fuel cell car have received a boost.

John Deere e-Power Technologies has donated a fuel cell power module valued at $150,000, the UND School of Engineering and Mines and Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., said Wednesday.

Hydrogen fuel cell technology is touted by many as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel source.

The car being designed and built by student members of the UND Society of Energy Alternatives will be raced in the 2005 North American Solar Challenge. The route starts in Austin, Texas, and goes through North Dakota to Calgary, Alberta.
