Alpen, Germany-
At this year's Hydrogen Expo USA from March 29 to April 1 in Washington,
DC, attendees can witness how hydrogen and fuel cell technologies have
matured. More than 50 international exhibitors already signed up to showcase
products that have moved beyond the laboratory stage. In addition to seeing
the indoor and outdoor exhibits, expo visitors have the chance to listen
to industry intelligence in the seminar forum at no extra cost.
One of Hydrogen Expo USA's attractions
is the hydrogen vehicle ride & drive at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel.
"Visitors will actually be able to get behind the steering wheel and experience
the mobility of the future." comments Ines Freesen, Managing Director of
Germany-based Hydrogen Expo organizer Freesen & Partner. All major
car manufacturers have ongoing demo programs to test their hydrogen vehicles
under real-life conditions. Honda recently leased two fuel cell-powered
FCX to the city of Las Vegas, Nevada, and also has a fleet driving on the
roads of Los Angeles, California. The Honda FCX is the first government-certified
fuel cell car for everyday use, it has a maximum output of 80 horsepower
(hp) and a range of up to 220 miles. The car company plans to lease 30
fuel cell vehicles in the United States and Japan in the near future. Hydrogen
Expo in Washington, DC is a unique instance to see this groundbreaking
technology on the East Coast.
Another highlight of the expo will
be BMW's presentation in the exhibit hall. The Bavarians pursue a different
track in the commercialization of hydrogen technologies. While Honda and
other car companies rely on electric-engines powered by a fuel cell, the
BMW 745h has an internal combustion engine running on hydrogen. In order
to overcome the difficulties of a not yet exisiting infrastructure of hydrogen
filling station, this car can switch from hydrogen to gasoline supply.
The hydrogen supply lasts for almost 200 miles, the gasoline tank provides
fuel for another 400 miles. In addition to this market-ready approach,
BMW introduced the H2R, a hydrogen race car that broke all records. The
H2R uses a 12-cylinder 6-liter engine and has an output of 232 hp with
liquid hydrogen fuel. This translates into a 0-60mph acceleration in under
6 seconds and a top speed speed of 174mph. The H2R will be on display at
Hydrogen Expo USA.
Hydrogen Expo USA is held in partnership
with the National Hydrogen Association's 16th Annual Conference, the leading
hydrogen conference in the United States. The expo features the whole scope
of hydrogen production, storage, safety, infrastructure, fuel cell design,
quality assurance, live demonstrations and hydrogen vehicles. The entrance
fee to the exhibit hall is US$ 100 and includes admission on March 30 and
31 from 10am to 5pm, admission to the exhibitor seminar forum, coffee breaks
on both days, admission to one lunch and one evening reception. For further
