For transporting liquid hydrogen, Japan has so far depended on tanker trucks or foreign-made containers into which nitrogen must be injected.
Kawasaki developed the special container for liquid hydrogen transportation for the first time in Japan and used the container for carrying the fuel with a vehicle over the distance from its liquid hydrogen plant in Hyogo Prefecture to a fueling station in Tokyo, it said.
Kawasaki has thus linked the liquid hydrogen plant to the fueling station, making progress in development of infrastructure for mass distribution of liquid hydrogen as fuel.
The company built the container, including a 15-cubic-meter storage tank, under a 60 million yen government program.
Kawasaki said it will develop liquid hydrogen containers for trains and ships as well.
