GenCell Corporation delivers 40 kW fuel cell system

GenCell Corporation has announced the delivery of a fuel cell powered electrical generating system to the University of Connecticut in Storrs CT. The system has a rated capacity of 40 kilowatts and is powered by a GenCell molten carbonate fuel cell operating on pipeline natural gas. The project is funded by the Connecticut Conservation & Load Management Fund and the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.

The system will be connected to the utility electrical distribution grid and will supply electricity and heat to the CT Global Fuel Cell Center located on UCONN’s campus. In the event of a power failure the system is designed to disconnect from the grid and supply power only to dedicated circuits within the center. During periods of low power demand from the building, excess power will be delivered to the utility electric distribution grid.

Randolph Bernard, GenCell’s president stated, "The delivery of this fuel cell system represents a major technological achievement for GenCell and siting it at the University of CT prominently demonstrates fuel cell technology to those who seek a clean and efficient alternative to conventional energy sources. Operation of this system will further demonstrate the commercial readiness of GenCell’s technology for a variety of distributed generation applications and further our objective of licensing the manufacture, sales and service of our technology to companies that have the necessary resources to ensure commercial success.”
