LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa.-- Air Products (APD) and H2scan Corporation today announced the signing of a collaboration agreement to work on a development effort related to solid-state chemical sensors for applications in hydrogen production, refineries and chemical process facilities. The development work will focus on providing sensors to operate inside process lines or vessels at Air Products' production facilities providing "real-time" hydrogen concentration data from the process gas flow.

"The ability to have real-time hydrogen concentration data from the H2scan sensors throughout the entire production process will provide us with better capabilities to more effectively operate our hydrogen plants," said Robert Davis, director, Hydrogen/Hydrocarbon Services for Air Products. "More than 18 months of collaborative work by H2scan and Air Products have led to this agreement. We think it is a win-win for both our companies, as well as those clients where we can now offer this capability."

"Our proprietary technology, which provides real-time monitoring of hydrogen contained in process gas, is leading edge technology. We are very pleased to collaborate with Air Products on developing new product applications, and to gain valuable field information from Air Products' decades of hydrogen plant operating knowledge and market expertise," said Dennis Reid, president and chief executive officer of H2scan.

In the collaborative work, Air Products will provide practical experience related to solid-state sensors, hydrogen production process conditions, and the process stream molecular compositions to quantify the amount of hydrogen during actual production operations. This knowledge will benefit process control strategies and final product certification. Air Products also will bring to the table commercial information related to solid-state sensors, sensor integration, and the processes used in the hydrogen production marketplace. H2scan will provide technical and commercial information related to chemical sensor design, including electro-chemical matrices, development and the manufacturing process of the Robust Hydrogen Sensor(TM), as well as successive generations of sensors in its product line.

Air Products is an industry leader in hydrogen safety and engineering, and a global leader in hydrogen production and distribution.
