Marubeni Signs Direct Fuel Cell Plants Contract With Posco

TOKYO, (Dow Jones)--Trading company Marubeni Corp. (8002.TO) and Korean steel maker Posco (005490.SE) have signed a delivery contract for commercial-use direct fuel cell plants, the Sankei Shimbun reports.

Marubeni is set to deliver three DFC plants costing around Y150 million each to Posco. The DFC plants are made using technology from U.S. firm FuelCell Energy Inc. (FCEL), which has a distribution agreement with Marubeni.

The three companies also plan to work together in the development and sales of DFC plants in Korea, the report said.

DFC plants use a large battery to generate electricity, so they produce virtually none of the pollutants associated with conventional fossil fuel burning plants. They can also be set up close to their point of use, such as factories and hospitals.
