Air Liquide to participate with fuel cell in scientific expedition to Clipperton Island
Publication Date:17-November-2004
Source:Air Liquide
Air Liquide is pleased to announce its involvement in the Clipperton Scientific Expedition, led by Doctor Jean-Louis Etienne. The expedition will take place from December 2004 to March 2005 on Clipperton Island, a French territory located off the west coast of Mexico. Its objective is to study biodiversity and the different effects of human activity on flora and fauna, both on land and underwater. The remoteness and inaccessibility of the island make it an outstanding wildlife reserve for research, to which forty or so scientists from a variety of disciplines will devote their attention.

Air Liquide is providing the expedition with gas and diving equipment, medical oxygen as well as an emergency intervention device for divers, air compressors, a hydrogen-powered fuel cell for self-sufficient, silent and non-polluting electricity production, and finally with liquid nitrogen for cryogenic preservation of collected samples. The Group will also provide technical expertise during the course of the expedition.

Air Liquide’s participation in this expedition alongside the other mission partners, reflects the Group’s interest in both scientific research and environmental conservation, and is therefore entirely in keeping with its commitment to sustainable development.
