Deng Nan, vice minister of China's Ministry of Science and Technology, recently commented that, currently, China should focus on the sustainable development of light environment-friendly vehicles.

So far, China has totally selected six pilot cities for promotion of gas-powered vehicles, and one demo area for carbinol-powered vehicles.

Statistics show that total 190, 000 gas-powered vehicles have been in use by far, thus, 1.3 million tons of fuel will be saved each year.

In addition, China has made an investment of CNY 880 million inthe research of future energy, and hybrid electric vehicles have entered trail commercial operation.

Internal-combustion engine and petroleum fuel have benefited human beings much, but it also caused pollution to environment. In the 21st century, some changes will take place in China's vehicle sector. Vehicles will shift from hydrogen hybrid electric ones to fuel cell ones, and the infrastructural facilities and storage and transport capacity will be enhanced to a large extent. China should firstly promote gas-powered vehicles, and then hybrid electric vehicles, according to Deng Nan.
