FuelCell Energy Named One of Connecticut's Fastest Growing Technology Companies
Publication Date:22-October-04

Company Attributes 69 Percent 5-Year Revenue Growth to Increasing Sales of Its ''Ultra-Clean'' Direct FuelCell Power Plants to Commercial and Industrial Customers Worldwide

FuelCell Energy (NasdaqNM:FCEL) has been named to Deloitte's prestigious Technology Fast 50 Program for Connecticut, a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the area by Deloitte & Touche LLP, one of the nation's leading professional services firms. Rankings are based on the percentage of growth in fiscal year revenues over five years, from 1999-2003.

FuelCell Energy's CEO Jerry D. Leitman credits the Company's 69 percent revenue growth from 1999-2003 to increasing sales of its 'ultra-clean' Direct FuelCell(R) (DFC(R)) power plants to commercial and industrial customers worldwide. He said, "With the ever-increasing price of energy, fuel cells are being recognized as a clean, efficient, and, most importantly, economical way to generate power. Our technological advantage is that we internally generate hydrogen from readily available fuels such as natural gas and wastewater treatment gas, and, therefore, we are delivering our commercial Direct FuelCell power plants to customers today."

"In today's economy, double-digit percentage revenue growth is an exceptional accomplishment," said David Carver, Partner, Deloitte's Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice in Connecticut. "We commend FuelCell Energy for making the commitment to technology and delivering on the promise of market longevity. We are proud to honor FuelCell Energy as a Deloitte Technology Fast 50 winner."

To qualify for the Technology Fast 50, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 1999 and $1,000,000 in 2003, must be public or private companies headquartered in North America, and be a "technology company" defined as owning proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues (using other companies' technology in a unique way does not qualify); and/or devoting a significant proportion of revenues to research and development of technology.
