The
University of South Carolina will receive a $2.1 million grant from the
U.S. Department of Energy to develop better ways to produce and store hydrogen
fuel cells, the school said Wednesday.
The 18-month grant will go to Ralph
White, dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology.
"This is an urgent area of research
for our state and national economy, particularly in light of this week's
news about rising fuel costs," White said.
He will work with researchers from
South Carolina State University, the Savannah River National Lab and energy
department officials in Washington.
