China Tenders for Demo Project for Fuel Cell Bus Commercialization

China will purchase 6 fuel-cell buses (FCB) for trial operation in Beijing and Shanghai, according to information from the International Procurement News Conference of Project Demonstration for Fuel Cell Bus Commercialization in China.

The project is supported by Chinese government, GEF (Global Environment Fund) and UNDP (United Nations Development Program), and co-executed by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST) and the municipal governments in Beijing and Shanghai.

The total investment in the project is USD32.36 million. It started in 2003, and the duration is 5 years.

Relative departments and experts will collect and analyze the test data during the trial operation to validate the technical feasibility and further modify the design.

Beijing is engaged in environmental protection to prepare for 2008 Olympics. Shanghai is also trying to reduce auto exhaust discharge and improve air quality for 2010 World Exposition.
