Dept of Energy to Announce $75 Million for Hydrogen Research Projects

On Monday, August 30, 2004, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will announce selections of competitive proposals from the solicitation for renewable and distributed production research projects in Denver, Colorado.

The announcement will be made by Acting Under Secretary David K. Garman at the World Renewable Energy Congress and Expo. These projects support President Bush (news - web sites)'s Hydrogen Fuel Initiative.

President Bush has called on DOE to pursue the promise of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to decrease America's dependence on foreign oil. These hydrogen research projects will represent another part of the President's Hydrogen Fuel Initiative that adds to the recent competitive proposals announced in fuel cells, hydrogen storage, hydrogen education, and in the national vehicle/infrastructure "learning demonstration".
